Is this not the fast that I choose; to loose the bonds of injustice, to undo the thongs of the yoke, to let the oppressed go free, and to break every yoke? Is it not to share your bread with the hungry, and bring the homeless poor into your house…Then your light will break forth like the dawn, and your healing shall spring up quickly; your vindicator shall go before you, the glory of the Lord shall be your rear guard. Then you shall call, and the Lord will answer; you shall cry for help, and he will say, Here I am.
Service Learning is something that makes HOPAC unique. Each student at HOPAC is expected to participate in community service throughout the year as part of the school curriculum. Service Learning gives each of our students an opportunity to ‘Step Out’ in serving others. Service Learning provides our teachers with profound ‘teachable moments’. This is what makes Service Learning both challenging and rewarding.
There are three core themes which Service Learning intends to teach:
1. To enable students to understand the biblical context of service and to provide opportunities for them to put faith into action
2. To provide an experience of being able to make a difference through action
3. To develop an understanding of the world as a global community in which God is at work
