The curriculum in the first 3 years of secondary school (Grades 6-8) is intended to offer students a broad programme whilst also laying the foundation for success in IGCSE courses in Grades 9 and 10.
The International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) is the world's most popular international qualification for 14 to 16 year-olds. Students prepare for IGCSE in Grade 9 and 10 with final exams in May of Grade 10. Students are examined in each of the subjects listed in the table below. A number of students additionally prepare for examinations in their 1st language or in EAL (English as an Additional Language). IGCSE is examined by the Cambridge International Examinations Board. The curriculum develops successful students, giving them excellent preparation for their next steps in education, including progression to AS- and A-Level study, which HOPAC offers in Grades 11 and 12.
Haven of Peace Academy launched Grade 11 for the 2006-07 school year offering the Cambridge AS/A-Levels. Grade 12 officially began in the 2007-08 school year with the same course of study.
Cambridge IGCSE and AS/A-Level awards are recognised by universities and employers worldwide. Additional information about IGCSE and AS/A-Level qualifications can be found at: http://www.cie.org.uk
In addition to examined courses, each grade level participates in co-curricular courses including Bible, Physical Education, Creative Arts, Service Learning. Information Technology is currently not offered as a course, but is worked into each subject's classtime.
