Tanzania is a developing nation. Universal education has only been available in the last 50 years, and that only to a limited level. The country has many needs, and whilst it is doing an amazing job with what it has got, there is plenty of room for outside help particularly on the education front. Haven of Peace Academy is a valued part of that outside help.
The need for quality Christian education in Tanzania has never been greater, and at Haven of Peace we see it in two ways: in the present, we have a flood of applicants from all faith groups, and all ethnic backgrounds, from the mission community and other aid groups, the international business community and from the settled local population. Also, the school has been going for over a decade, and from that perspective, it is clear that the future well-being of the country depends on there being a significant number of Tanzanian nationals in key positions who have benefitted from the sort of Christian, western-standard education that HOPAC provides.
While we would love to be able to welcome any interested student, we are limited in what we can do. The size and number of our classrooms limits the number of places we can offer, so we are turning away students at every grade. Additionally, many missionaries and local pastors are unable to afford our tuition costs, despite the fact that we keep them as low as possible.
We were recently able to purchase 4 acres of land adjoining our campus and now have the room we need to expand, as detailed on our recently-completed Campus Master Plan. Through it, we are looking to meet the needs of our students for years to come. Having identified our current limitations and envisioned where we would like to be in the future, we are now launching a capital campaign. This has the twin aims of providing construction funds to increase our classroom space and scholarships to cover the fees for families who are debarred merely from lack of income.
